MALGA CIAPELA - Friday 8 March - Sunday 17 March 2013
Introduction
This year we had the pleasure to join the CLUB EPO-SKI ( read: Karel's Travel Agency) on its 30th anniversary trip to Malga Ciapela in the Dolomiti Superski area. Karel Schuurmans has reached this milestone as EPO organiser without any subsidy, which is a big success on itself, especially when you consider that many commercial travel agencies have disappeared since the start of the EPO SKI CLUB.

Karel has a number of loyal club members who return every year, both active and retired EPO staff and their family members. Most of them joined the very well organised trips that Karel has organised to numerous ski resorts in Europe, Canada and the USA throughout the 30 years that the CLUB EPO-SKI exists.
This year again two trips were organised to Italy, one to Alleghe and one to Malga Ciapela.
Trip to Malga Ciapela
The large Dolomiti Superski area cannot be compared with any other ski area in Europe. The mountains are steep and rough, whereas the slopes are broad, flat, and quite. Prices are low ( Espresso for 1 Euro !) and the snow is top. Friendly local people who deliver a pleasant and excellent service are at your disposal. A good example is Hotel Roy*** where we had a nice stay in a pleasant atmosphere with good food and an excellent service ( Nathalie !).

On Friday 8 March the ski-bus with two very experienced drivers drove us safely to Malga Ciapela where we arrived on Saturday around 12.00 hrs. During our trip Karel served prosecco and other tasty drinks and sweets. Dinner and breakfast on our way were top, so we arrived is good shape in Malga Ciapela.
The weather in Malga Ciapela was rather cold for the time of the year, but ski conditions were good. Sometimes snow, a bit of fog so now and then at the higher slopes, but also lots of sunshine.

The advantage of having an own ski-bus during the week with an excellent driver Arie, gave us the possibility of making daily trips to other resorts in the area. Karel knows exactly the best spots, so we had the opportunity to ski in resorts like Civetta, Carreza, Alleghe, and other places. There we discovered slopes for ourselves with no other people. This was a great experience !

After a very nice week, with a pleasant group of people, and a professional fire work on Friday night, we had to return to Rijswijk again, where we arrived in the morning of Sunday 17 March 2013 with pleasant memories.

APRES - SKI AT IT'S BEST WITH CLUB EPO-SKI !!!
Conclusion
Karel, and not to forget his wife Mieke, did a great job. The club members hope that the EPO-SKI CLUB will exist another 30 years under Karel's leadership ! We would like to thank him for this great event !
