HIT THE SLOPES: GO SKIING IN ITALY with CLUB EPO-SKI !
Although Austria, France, and Switzerland have perhaps the best known ski resorts in Europe such as Kitzbühel, Méribel and St. Anton, one of the biggest ski areas in Europe is the Italian Dolomites. For those looking for great skiing and hardly any lift queues, the dolomites are highly recommended.
The Dolomites consist of 12 different ski areas and more than 1200 km of slopes. Once you have seen it you will understand why the region is an UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. Buses link all the ski areas and in most cases the cost is included in the price of a dolomite superski pass.
We spent a week in the picturesque village of Alleghe, situated in the Civetta ski area that consists of 25 lifts and 80 km of slopes for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. From our hotel in the middle of the town it was a 5 minutes walk to lift station.
Our week flashed by. We spent 4 days skiing in Civetta and made 3 days trips to the Falcade, Obereggen and Marmolada ski areas.
For me, the highlight was the Marmolada. The imposing and majestic Marmolada ( 3342 mt.) is the highest mountain in the Dolomites and the view from the top is truly breathtaking. On the way up to the peak at the Serauta cable staion you can visit the Museo della Grande Guerra ( the Great War Museum) dedicated to the victims of 1915-1918 war. At the foot of the Marmolada you can ski through the gola dei Serrai di Sottoguda, a deep canyon considered a wonder of the Veneto Alps and if you are lucky you will be able to marvel at the ice-climbers descending the canyon slopes.
Finally, one of the advantages of skiing in Italy is the anticipation of lunch and enjoying some wonderful pastas and friendly service. Then celebrating a wonderful days skiing with a Bombardino, a delicious Italian liqueur.

I would like to thank the CLUB EPO-SKI for arranging the trip. Every year they organise two ski trips to the Dolomites.
